Dopamine hits straight to the brain — I’ve been relying on refined sugar waay too much through my holiday itinerary and am currently working through the consequences 🤦🏻‍♀️ •• There’s a long list of reasons why I should cut out treats like these outrageous mudslide cookies from @westtownbakery from my diet. Digesting a lot of refined sugars causes gut inflammation and a chemical called endotoxin to be released in the microbiome. With the endotoxin comes feelings of depression, anxiety and social withdrawal. Did you know the brain is directly connected to the lymphatic system? Too much sugar can disrupt proper neurotransmission and lower immune response.* Makes sense why I can’t seem to kick this cold, and I’ve been hiding in my apartment since the last week of December. (This post is depressing, Jonna. Go ahead and skip to the good news!) Studies show a generous dose of Omega-3 EPAs (i.e. fish oil) can completely alleviate anxiety symptoms. I plan on doubling up on meals with fish this week and supplementing with @thorneresearch Super EPAs. I’ll update you with yay or nay results by the weekend.   3. the gut is the second brain for sure !!! I learned so much about this in my nutrition class last summer .my sugar addiction is definitely linked to my anxiety haha. also- huckleberry extract will knock that cold right out ! I like concentrated form in the dropper . really enjoy your posts ! xo
